WHAT IS THE BROADWAY SAN DIEGO AWARDS IN A TYPICAL YEAR?

The Broadway San Diego Awards are sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union® and are a High School Musical Theatre competition in which 2 winners go on to compete at The Jimmy Awards® in New York.

Finalists from participating schools will be nominated as Best Actor/Best Actress candidates for their portrayal of leading roles in their high school’s musical theatre production. We will begin the evening with 10 Male and 10 Female Nominees. By the end of the evening, 1 Male Champion and 1 Female Champion will be selected to represent the Broadway San Diego Awards at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards® (NHSMTA), also known as the Jimmy Awards®, in New York in June. The San Diego winners will join dozens of other finalists from regional competitions across the country for a week long experience called Camp Broadway, which includes rehearsals, workshops, lectures and field trips, designed to prepare the students for The Jimmy Awards®, which are presented on Broadway at a Nederlander theatre.
